Our community is our biggest strength and the reason Small Projects Istanbul came to exist. For this reason, we always try to work as closely as possible with our members: to provide support and facilitate their integration in Turkey and also to improve the activities of our centre according to their feedback.
We keep in touch with all our members while working in these 4 areas:
Whenever any member comes to us with legal, psychological or medical issues, we get in touch with trusted partner organisations that work in these fields and can provide the kind of help needed.
We believe that holding knowledge is the first step to be empowered and we share any useful information, such as websites, job portals, legal updates, etc… with all our members.
We try to create connections among our members by using different strategies, by, for example, hosting regular community meeting events, to create a stronger network and to recreate the safety net they had to leave behind.
Everyone is welcomed in Small Projects Istanbul, and we set up a registration procedure in order to get to know more about our beneficiaries and be able to reach any and each one of them.
We also dedicate a part of the community centre as an open space for all the donations we receive. Everybody is welcomed to checked them out and take what they need.
Small Projects Istanbul also runs 2 seasonal programs designed to provide extra support to our members.
Every year, at the end of Ramadan, we distribute a gift package to as many families as we can, depending on the contributions we are able to collect. In 2019, we collaborated with Şok supermarket and distributed prepaid cards to our members.
Back to School is a program that aims to support our members in the school registration process and it provides uniforms and stationary to the children of our community.
In 2018, SPI funded 78 students and, in 2019, thanks to the generous donations, Small Projects Istanbul was able to distribute 119 uniforms to around 100 families.
Every year in August, we start a fundraising campaign to collect enough donations to be able to provide help for the upcoming school semesters.
In kind donations and contributions are fundamental to keep our community centre running and to be able to provide direct support to all our members.
