Recreation

Having fun is as important as learning and it is a fundamental part of every child’s well being. Plus, playing together is the best way to create close friendships and beat loneliness and isolation. These are some of the activities we carry out during the year for our beloved children.

Kids' Fun Time

Kids’ Fun Time is a weekly session and it has one of the highest turnout. The team of volunteers includes Turkish, Arabic and English speakers and they always come up with new and creative art and craft ideas to bring the children together in a friendly and healthy environment where they can enjoy, connect and mingle.

Art club

This activity is run by professional art teachers, who use a variety of techniques to create a healing art program which allows the children to find their own voices through the artistic process.

Sport

Throughout the year, volunteers lead a range of outdoor and physical activities, like football, capoeira, yoga and mixed field activities to promote team building and healthy habits. During the warmest months, we rent a local football field to use as outdoor space for football matches or field games for different age groups.

Cooking class

Once a month, around 40 children from 7 to 14 years old are walked through easy and yummy recipes and they transform into little chefs. Pizza, cupcakes, cookies are only a few of the delicacies they have made so far.

Excursions

Exploring the city and going on adventures are the best ways to get to know more about Istanbul, while learning and meeting new people. We plan many excursions during the year and they are activities very much looked forward to. From a trip to Prince Island, a visit to Pera Museum or Istanbul Modern Art Museum, an afternoon at the movie theatre or a day trip outside of the city, we always try to provide the best possible experience to the children and women of our community center.

New Year Party

Every year, at the end of December, the community centre transforms into a big playground where the children can come and celebrate the arrival of the new year. It’s a huge event with more than 20 volunteers involved and over 200 children attending.

In 2019, the party had a wishing tree, a photobooth area, a face painting section and, at the end of the activities, every child received a small gift and a ticket to the ice skate park.
